About Wayne Eldred
Born the son of an engineer working on foreign projects, Wayne Cameron Eldred grew up in many different countries. The list of countries includes: Saudi Arabia, India, Egypt, Jamaica and England. It was in Surrey, England where Wayne attended the prestigious boarding school Barrow Hills, a Franciscan Friar Order. While attending Barrow Hills, Wayne had the opportunity to travel all over the world as a young man. Through all of his travels and time abroad, Wayne learned a great deal of different cultures and cuisines. He developed a palate for unique recipes and interesting ingredients that he brought with him to the United States of America, when his family moved to Florida in 1992.
Wayne graduated from Florida International University with his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and decided to make Miami, Florida, his permanent home. Wayne has dedicated more than 23 years mastering restaurant operations. He spent over 13 of those years at the helm of Tarpon Bend Raw Bar & Grill. As of April 5th, 2013, Wayne achieved one of many longtime goals and became the majority owner of Tarpon Bend Raw Bar & Grill, right here in Coral Gables. Wayne virtually built Tarpon Bend from the ground up by putting in endless hours every week making sure to provide phenomenal customer service, properly trained staff members and in knowing his patrons by name.
Wayne has not only served Coral Gables by providing delicious brunch, lunch, dinner and its legendary happy hour options at his restaurant but he has also been very active in the Coral Gables community. He has served the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce as a board member for over 7 years. On several of those years, he has served on the executive board, as the treasurer, and in 2015 took the helm as Chairman for the 2015-2016 term. Wayne will be the first Chairman since the Chambers inception to be the first restaurateur and second youngest in 93 years. He has spent many years supporting the City of Coral Gables by consulting on hospitality issues as well as through partnerships and co-founding events like the annual Burgerlicious event and Coral Gables Restaurant Week. In 2013, Wayne was honored as the winner of the Diamond Awards for outstanding restaurant. In February of 2016 The Miami Herald selected Wayne to be one of South Florida’s Food 50, being only one of three 3 in the Hospitality Expert Section, and on March 15, 2016 Wayne and Tarpon Bend was honored for their culinary contributions to the City of Coral Gables.
